About the Tour
Why do this tour? This place of our ancestors offers a beautiful and peaceful country life with scenic routes just a few minutes’ drive from the hassle and bustle of the city life of Joburg.
We start our tour from the The Thatch Cafe parking right at the entrance to the Rhino and Lion Park in Kromdraai.
We ride about 3km to the old Kromdraai Gold Mine at IBIS Ridge Farm...one of the first goldmines in the Witwatersrand dating back to 1881. We stop there for a 45mins guided tour of the mine and a 15mins lecture. Whilst there you can visit a contemporary art gallery which has some beautiful artwork.
After Ibis Farm, we proceed to Sterkfontein Caves where we will take another guided tour for an hour of the Caves dating back a millions ago.
We then head back to The Thatch where we end our tour with lunch in the presences of the Giraffes and Bisons (American buffalo), if we are lucky, we can catch a glimpse of Lions and the White tiger across the road from the Cafe.
